Joining the Future Physician Leaders Program

The Future Physician Leaders program is for community college students, college pre-med, medical students, and post-graduates (within two years) interested in being future physician leaders and returning to serve their communities. Students must have an interest in a career in health care or other inter-related professions, such as public policy.

The program is intended for students from the Inland Southern California region, including Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. Applicants must have a permanent address in these areas to be eligible to participate.

The lecture series, community service and research projects, and mentorship events are open to college students, and college graduates (within two years).

What is the Purpose of the Program?

We are committed to developing a large cohort of health profession leaders that will return to these communities of Coachella Valley, Riverside, and San Bernardino as medical or health care professionals. Our program goal is consistent with the mission of the developing UC Riverside School of Medicine "to improve the health of the people of California and, especially, to serve Inland Southern California by training a diverse workforce of physicians and by developing innovative research and health care delivery programs that will improve the health of the medically underserved in the region and become models to be emulated throughout the state and nation."

How to Get Involved

FPL students are life-long members. Students can volunteer for upcoming events such as the annual Flying Doctors gathering in the Coachella region.

Returning students interested in being mentors can apply for the FPL Student Committee in the fall. The application can be found on the Forms & Documents page.

Is there a Cost to Participate?
