Fulfilling a Mission of Medical Service to the Community
Mentorship Program
In 2020, we developed a new mentorship program component, which supports FPL's goals to mentor future health professionals.
Each year, participants are admitted into the mentorship program in addition to completing the FPL program components (Community Health Project, Leadership Lecture Series, and Program Symposium). Mentors are UCR School of Medicine medical students and local health professionals.

Benefits
- Participants are mentored by current medical students who are passionate about mentoring and empowering first-generation college students to pursue a medical education.
- Participants are closely matched with a mentor who will help students with career preparation and medical school application preparation.
- Participants are invited to various professional development opportunities throughout the academic year.
- At the end of the program, their mentor relationship is encouraged to continue.
Program activities include, but not limited to:
- Mentor networking
- SMART goal setting
- Reviewing Multiple Mini-Interviews and providing interview tips
- Personal statement feedback
- Case-based learning activities
